FAMILIAR FACES REVITALIZE MISS VERMONT
April 2005, Bakersfield, VT---The Miss Vermont Scholarship Organization, Inc. is under new leadership! The state affiliate of the Miss America Organization has been without an Executive Director or Board since fall 2004. On April 7, 2005 the state franchise was awarded to the Executive Team of Sarah Jo Willey, Hannah Nelson, Amy Johnson, and Harry Benoit. The three native Vermont women leading the organization are previous Miss Vermont title holders; Sarah in 2002, Amy in 2001, and Hannah in 2000. Ms. Willey has taken on the position of Executive Director, Ms. Nelson and Ms. Johnson, Assistant Directors, and Mr. Benoit is the new Production Director. Miss Vermont celebrates its sixty-first anniversary this year as part of the eight-four year history of Miss America.
The Miss America Organization is one of the nations leading achievement programs and the worlds largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local affiliates made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. This assistance is not just for the handful of young women who become Miss America, but is available to the thousands young women who compete in the state and local competitions as well.
Rich in history and social significance, the Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit organization that has maintained a tradition for many decades of empowering young women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence. Scholarships have been the cornerstone of the Miss America program since 1945 when Bess Myerson was the first Miss America to receive a scholarship from the Organization.
